Our team of passionate craftsmen have almost 30 years' experience creating beautiful handmade kitchens and furniture, for both domestic and commercial clients in the South East, including Kent, Sussex and surrounding areas.

We are an independent company of craftsmen who for thirty years have specialised in the design and making of bespoke kitchens and all kinds of other fine furniture, from simple alcove cupboards to elaborate bedroom suites. From our cabinet making workshop in Westerham, Kent, we build and install fine hand-made wooden and painted furniture for clients throughout the South East. Our website aims to give you an insight into the varied range of bespoke kitchens and fine furniture that we produce, as well as showcase the quality of our work.

The kitchen is considered to be the heart of the home and as such, a great amount of time is spent there, enjoying family mealtimes and drinks with friends. So it's understandable that people are keen to have a space they are proud of. Wooden kitchens offer a natural finish that is warm, practical and aesthetically pleasing. Wooden kitchens have always been, and we are sure will continue to be, a popular choice of kitchen among our clients. For many, a kitchen is a place where they want to see and appreciate the look, feel and smell of wood.

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary; we can help to make it both a stylish and a practical one. We can work with you to ensure you utilise your space in the best possible way, whilst at the same time creating elegant pieces of wooden bedroom furniture that will stand the test of time. Fitted wardrobes are an excellent way of organising a bedroom and many clients also choose to have other pieces of furniture made to complement their wardrobes. With a variety of finishes available, this furniture can be as simple or intricate as you wish: we will work on a design until you are completely happy with it.

Contemporary kitchens are a popular choice of kitchen. They can be hand-made with a range different finishes and they can suit a variety of spaces, large and small. Some clients opt for the super sleek gloss kitchen, installing state of the art technology and appliances, with the latest lighting and flooring options. Others prefer to choose a modern twist on a classic or traditional shaker kitchen, with a painted finish in a contemporary colour. Contemporary kitchens can be created from other kitchen styles.

As well as all the traditional pieces of furniture you may expect from a cabinet-making firm, Wood Works of Westerham have also helped many clients fit out their bathrooms with beautiful bespoke wooden furniture, such as cabinets, storage systems and vanity units, all made from the finest materials and with a durable finish. Although vanity units are probably our most popular requests for wooden bathrooms, we have also made custom designed bath panels and airing cupboards through to elaborate bespoke bathroom mirrors.

Many people these days need somewhere to get paper-work done at home, whether it is just a well-thought-out desk area in the corner of a room, or a whole office. From our workshop in Westerham, Kent, we can build you an efficient modern suite of wooden furniture, or a study with a warm, clubby atmosphere. We have built libraries with ladders to reach the higher shelves, desks with leather tops, drawers with concealed chargers for phones and filing cabinets with beautiful wooden drawer fronts. Let us help you create a comfortable and practical working environment at home, with our hand-crafted wooden furniture for offices, studies and libraries.

A farmhouse kitchen with a rustic country feel will always be a popular choice. Whether you prefer a wooden finish or a painted finish, these traditional kitchens create the cosy, homely atmosphere that many people wish to achieve in their home, whilst retaining a rustic look for that true, authentic feel. Often clients will have been dreaming about a traditional kitchen space for many years, with their Aga and flagstone floor, but for one reason or another, they have not pursued their dream. From our workshop in Westerham, Kent, we are skilled at making these dreams a reality.

As well as building bespoke kitchens, we also specialise in tailor-made cabinet work. Our clients often come to us with an idea for a particular piece of handmade furniture and enjoy working together with us to make that idea come to life. Clients can have as much or as little input into the design as they wish, it's all about making sure that at the end of the process you have a piece of handmade furniture that you find pleasing and that fulfils the brief. As with the kitchen design process, it generally starts with a visit from our designer to discuss your requirements and tastes.

Sometimes clients come to us with an idea for a piece of furniture that they have in their head and want to see in the flesh. This may be a standard piece of furniture such as a wardrobe but with its own design tweaks or often something we have never made before, like a recent commission for a crudits display piece for a client of ours with a restaurant in Chelsea. Whatever the request, we will do our best to work with you to create something special that we can both be proud of. Having a piece of furniture that is custom made for you is one of the nicest things about furnishing a home.

The painted kitchen is a very popular choice at the moment, with people liking the ability to update their kitchen over time. Painted kitchens offer the customer the control and flexibility to decorate their kitchen space according to changing trends or altered colour schemes in their house, ultimately saving the cost of a replacement kitchen. The colour palette for painted kitchens varies a lot between customers. Grey is currently a popular shade, which gives a classic painted kitchen a contemporary feel and a neutral tone to work with.

If you have a question that you can't find an answer to on our site, perhaps it can be found in our list of frequently asked questions below. If not, then feel free to get in touch and a member of the Wood Works of Westerham team would be happy to assist you. We make all sorts of bespoke furniture, ranging from kitchens and fitted wardrobes through to vanity units and more. We have a team of talented craftsman who can bring almost any design to life. If you have an idea then come and discuss it with us and we will do our best to make it work for you.

The outline below mostly applies to a new kitchen design project but is also relevant for other projects. The first step is to arrange a home visit to either measure up the room or collect copies of architect's drawings if the space has yet to be built. We then make up a set of drawings, usually on a CAD software programme, and prepare a quotation. For those customers who have not seen our work before, we frequently arrange a visit to a previous client, so that you can see our furniture in use, and discuss some of the practical pros and cons to consider for your project.

Some people have a very clearly worked out idea of what they want when they approach us, others have really no clear vision at all apart from wanting a change, with most people being somewhere between these positions. Our job is to try to deliver bespoke handmade kitchens to our clients' needs, with how ever much discussion is required to pin-point what those needs may be. For most of us the kitchen is the heart of the home, so it's very important to get it right when planning and designing the space.

Kitchen tables, dining tables, consoles and coffee tables, a pretty little breakfast table for the lady of the house or a massive boardroom table to make a statement - we've tackled them all. For the furniture-maker the different structural options for a table present an interesting challenge, and the range of possible materials and finishes is almost unlimited, meaning you can have a piece of furniture that is entirely unique to you. From our workshop in Westerham, Kent, we create handmade wooden tables to order.

Classic kitchens have a timeless appeal, which stands the test of time. This style of kitchen retains all the elements people expect of a traditional kitchen and takes inspiration from the period Georgian kitchen styles, but is often a very subtle and sleek version, with minimal fussiness. Classic kitchens are often based on a classic shaker door, with the in frame design, but choose a painted finish in a timeless colour such as white and then the feel of the kitchen changes, depending on how the client accessorises the space.

If you really want to make your house a home, furnishing it with handmade, bespoke furniture provides a truly personal finish. Whichever room you are redesigning, we lovingly hand-craft fine furniture to all tastes and requirements, using an array of finishes.

Bookcases can provide a really practical solution for storage within your home, whether it be a freestanding bookcase or a fitted bookcase for a particular area in your home. Our wooden bookcases can be made to any size you require and can be tailor-made to fit your books and other belongings, with shelves on pre-drilled supports or a bookcase strip system for maximum flexibility. Since the furniture that we make is completely bespoke, you choose the finish to suit you and your home. Our handmade bookcases range from contemporary to traditional style in painted or wood finishes.

At Wood Works of Westerham, we take pride in building practical, durable, beautiful handmade wooden kitchens in a wide range of styles, from the traditional farmhouse kitchen to the sleek modern, contemporary styles. Currently the modern painted take on the classic kitchen is proving very popular. From our Kent based workshop we build everything by hand, including the cabinet carcasses and dovetailed drawer boxes. Our experience and attention to detail ensures that your bespoke wooden kitchen suits your home perfectly and continues to give delight and good service for years to come.
