We have to start back in 1949. Picture a bright-eyed little eight year old lad on a rusty old bike peddling through Carshalton. The wretched war is over though rationing is still making life very difficult for everyone. That's not all he picks up. He's also picked up a few tips from the newsagent, Nobby Clarke, on how to rear chickens! Hail the start of a gardening enterprise. When his wares are ripe, ready and plump, he's off to Mrs Jones up the road, and Mr Findlay down the lane, to sell them a spud or three.
Eat breakfast at least 2 days a week. It's normally great, but Saturday 1st dec got a fried breakfast then queued 15 minutes for a pot of tea. Consequently my breakfast was stoned cold & unable to eat the congealed fat.
I had a disappointing trip to the post Christmas walk through here today. I hadn't realised it was cash only for entrance and didn't have enough with me unfortunately. The staff at the entrance grotto weren't able to advise whether there was a cash machine available, and so I enquired at the tills. The member of staff I was directed to was rude and unhelpful. When i enquired whether there was a cash machine or cash back available she was very dismissive and offered no help or solution. After my finally gleaning from her that there was a cash machine at the local petrol station, I walked the 20 mins there and back with my 2 boys. On finally getting back to the grotto, I handed over a 10 note for our 6 entrance and was told abruptly 'we don't give change'. I don't actually mind paying more given that the entrance fee goes to charity, but I did object to being spoken to in that way, plus it probably shouldnt be advertised as a set fee if change isn't being given. We finally made it round the grotto, which was lovely but as it was, quite an expensive 15 mins! Afterwards I'd promised my older child we could go to the cafe, but it had closed, 5 mins earlier, at 3.30pm. All in all, a disappointing trip.
Went for cream tea today. Very disappointed, very small portions would not recommend had to queue up to get our tea after sandwiches arrived only 1 pot between 2 not even 1 full cup of tea each :-
