John Williamson first established JWJ with his wife, in 1979. The company has since grown and now employs a team of six, including son and daughter, and son-in-law. The company also benefits from three longstanding, loyal employees, who have all been with JWJ since apprenticeship. Collectively JWJ boasts over 75 years' experience in the joinery trade. Our family firm has always prided itself on providing outstanding quality joinery at affordable prices. For more than thirty years we have been combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and techniques, to provide a service that meets every need.

We use the same approach to designing a bedroom and office furniture as we do for our kitchens. We listen very carefully to what our client wants from a bedroom or office suite. The final appearance is important, yes, but ultimately it's the functionality which will determine whether it's a success or not. As individuals, we all view function and form differently. So at JWJ, our job is to produce the bedroom or office suite which stores what it needs to, works how it's supposed to, and looks like it was designed to.

Whether they are softwood windows with a painted finish or hardwood windows such as Iroko or Oak with oiled finish, JWJ produces beautiful timber windows. We are experienced in producing all types of windows. Traditional, Flush-fronted are the most popular, but we also manufacture Storm-proof, Tilt & Turn or Top Hung versions. Manufactured to the highest specification, our windows can be exact replicas of existing windows in Listed or Heritage Buildings or they can encompass all the latest technologies to meet, or even exceed, building regulations and the regulatory U-Value.

At JWJ, our ability to design ultimate bespoke joinery is fully demonstrated with our kitchens. Not just with the style and materials used, but with the time afforded to our clients for very careful consultation and consideration to produce the kitchen they really want. From its day to day functionality to its 'wow factor' appearance, JWJ kitchens are meticulously designed, beautifully manufactured and finished and expertly fitted by our own Joiners. We can incorporate all modern features and appliances, and tailor your wooden units to whatever sizes you require.

At JWJ we manufacture staircases to suit your need, whether a functional straight flight or solid oak staircase a featured centrepiece of your hallway. Both internal or external timber staircases manufactured. Wooden staircases can be simple and functional or intricate and beautiful, a true statement of the period or property. Whatever your need we can offer a full service to design, manufacture, fully finish & install your staircase. A staircase may be constructed with MDF Treads & Ply risers for a carpeted finish with softwood or hardwood strings or could be manufactured completely in oak, ash, beech, or other hardwoods with balustrades to match.

JWJ enjoys a very loyal customer base. Built-up over the years, many customers return year after year for ongoing improvements to their home. We are also lucky enough to attract new customers via recommendation too, and traditionally these residential customers account for approximately 65% of our work. Aside from this, we do work in partnership with a select handful of commercial partners which complement our residential clientele. Usually working on unusual or high-end style projects, our commercial partners utilise our joinery knowledge and craftsmanship for their own clients and they do so with total confidence.

Many years ago, John Williamson made the very conscious decision to offer a 'complete' joinery service. Many people are frustrated when an apparently simple project suddenly becomes complicated and stressful due to more than one tradesman or contractor being required. Although we can operate on a 'supply only' basis, the vast majority of our work is far more comprehensive. Commonly, JWJ design, manufacture, fully finish, glaze and install their own joinery. Our dedicated finishing workshop enables us to paint, varnish oil or stain the items our joiners produce.

When making the joinery products we only use traditional joinery techniques. This ensures you receive the highest quality of joinery work from our craftsmen. Each of our designs is unique to each of our customers meaning you have individual items for your home. Here at John Williamson Joinery, we offer our customers a complete joinery service.
