Firstly the key to good carpet maintenance is to avoid particles of loose dirt from working into the pile, where they will act abrasively on the fibres and can also discolour the carpet. Therefore vacuum regularly, at least two to three times per week. Place barrier mats or runners at doorways to prevent the spread of dirt around the house, but remember to vacuum barrier mats on a regualar basis too. A few golden rules for dealing with the inevitable spills and accidents: Move fast, the sooner you tackle a spill, the better your chance of avoiding a stain, scrape up or blot any excess before treatment.
