For almost 40 years, we have designed and manufactured timber frame systems for a wide variety of sectors including self-build, private and affordable housing, education, care homes and student accommodation. Combining knowledge and expertise with the latest design software and manufacturing equipment, we enable our clients to build efficient, high-quality homes, faster. Our timber frame presents a speedy, cost-effective and energy-efficient offsite construction method. We have had a very good experience with Taylor Lane, with great service from start to finish.

Taylor Lane works with around 20 specialist sub-contracted timber frame erection firms, many of which have carried out contracts on our behalf for over 10 years, in all parts of the UK. They provide a skilled and experienced workforce, using the latest mechanical equipment to ensure a precise quality build. We are committed to the health and safety of our erecting partners and as such regularly host an erector's training day. The day addresses changes in legislation, health and safety matters, manufacturing and construction techniques, insurance, finance and certified tool training.

Our experienced project managers, site supervisors, operations managers and construction managers are on-hand throughout the process - from order stage through to completion. Working with the commercial sales team they may also be involved during the sales process to gain an all-encompassing view of the project. Our project managers are predominantly office-based and carry out the day-to-day site management. Our site contracts teamensure that a contract is completed safely, on-time and that ultimately, the project is completed to a high standard before handing over to the client.

Taylor Lane is committed to manufacturing a high-performance and environmentally friendly timber frame kit, creating an energy efficient building and home. Timber frame offers many unique advantages over traditional masonry and cavity construction, superior thermal performance is one such benefit. A Taylor Lane timber frame can achieve a U-value as low as 0.1 W/m2K and an average Y-value of 5%, a 3% improvement on the national standard. Thermal performance is measured in terms of heat loss, in the UK construction industry this is normally expressed as a U-value.

Taylor Lane offers a complete range of joinery and finishing products to complete and enhance your build. We work with leading suppliers to offer a choice of quality products that complement the design of your home. We offer products from respected brands such as Velux, JELD-WEN, NorDan, Fenea and Swish Building Products. We have a dedicated team who work with you to select the best products for your design, budget and build schedule. These can be supplied and delivered direct to site to coincide with key points in the build.

As part of our timber frame offering, we employ a dedicated steel team. Working from our Chapel Road site, our steel department can design and fabricate complex structures alongside simple support frames including floor beams, roof purlins and universal columns. We are a CE certified execution Class 2 steel fabricator. All our fabricated steel is designed to be incorporated quickly and easily within our timber frame kits. We use various welding techniques including Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA).

As a respected timber frame manufacturer, Taylor Lane has supplied its kits to many first-timers as well as experienced builders and contractors. Taylor Lane is an expert in offsite construction, helping to reduce build time and costs. Taylor Lane uses standard platform frame construction. This utilises a soleplate to provide an accurate template onto which the timber frame can be fixed down to. It also secures the damp proof course (DPC) in position, protecting it from damage. Generally, sole plates are either shot fired to the concrete slab (single sole plate) or drilled and plugged.

Our range of engineered wood products includes I-Joists, metal web joists, Ultralam beams, Glulam beams and floor cassettes. All of these components are manufactured in a quality-controlled environment for precision, and aid the build process. I-Joists, otherwise known as I-beams are a factory-made, structurally engineered timber product, providing outstanding strength and durability. The timber joist has an I-shaped cross-section comprising top and bottom flanges made of softwood or LVL (laminated veneer lumber) fixed to a tall vertical web of OSB (oriented strand board) or similar.

In November 1982, Colin Taylor and Barrie Lane started Taylor Lane Timber Frame Ltd. Each with a decade of timber frame experience, they began building frames in a small factory unit in Hereford. This remains our main site today. The office has been extended over the years to accommodate our 60+ office staff and the factory is now our steel fabrication building. With a reputation for high-quality self-build and one-off properties, the 1990s saw us extend our offering, opening up to the commercial sector, providing kits for developers, contractors and local authorities.

Taylor Lane provides a complete roof truss service from concept consultation to design, manufacture and delivery to site. Roof trusses can be ordered as part of a timber frame kit or stand-alone, ideal for standard brick and block construction. We can undertake all roof types from garages to extensions, a 'room in the roof' to a Posi-Attic through to houses, blocks of flats and vast, complex structures such as care homes. Using MiTek Pamir software, our experienced truss team design detailed dimensional drawings for accurate production and efficient installation onsite.

Roof trusses are structural engineered individual components made from kiln-dried TR26 timbers, treated (VacVac) to cycle 'F' requirements and joined together with steel nail-plates. They are designed to support the roof fabric, ceilings and/or floors, together with providing the shape of the roof. Taylor Lane roof trusses are designed in-house to Euro Code 5 using MiTek Pamir software. We use the latest Hundegger cutting technology to ensure accuracy and speed of production. We have had a very good experience with Taylor Lane, with great service from start to finish.

From enquiry through to completion, Taylor Lane is with you every step of the way. We pride ourselves on our relationships and long-standing partnerships with builders, developers, contractors, housing associations and self-builders. Your Taylor Lane journey will often start with our business development and sales team before your project is handed over to our estimating department for pricing. Once the contract has been agreed, designers in our in-house drawing office take up the reins - turning the architectural drawings into timber frame plans.
