The Natural Floor Co. has over 18 years experience specialising in wooden floor and stair renovation. We can offer you a range of services including sanding, board laying, gap filling, hearth removal, staining, painting, lacquering, stair renovation and acoustic insulation. We aim to give you a fantastic looking floor whatever your requirements. The Natural Floor Co. is primarily London based, but can take on projects all over the UK and Europe. We have completed projects in Liverpool's Georgian quarter, Madrid's fashionable Chueca district (featured in Elle Decoration) and in central Barcelona and private residences in the Catalan countryside.
Prior to sanding and re-finishing we can carry out any repair or restoration work necessary to any type of wooden floor. We have extensive experience of renovating every possible type of timber floor laid in every possible way. If we haven't seen it, it's not worth mentioning. Original, structural pine floors in period properties suffer all sorts of abuse over the years - from woodworm, insensitive electricians & plumbers to overzealous DIY alterations. Often an old pine floor is no more than a jigsaw puzzle of loose, worn & damaged boards with 'stray' new pine boards sticking out like a sore thumb.
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep to remove any loose dirt or grit. If you vacuum, use a soft brush attachment. If you dry-mop using the Bona Cleaning Pad, remember to remove any loose dirt or grit afterwards. Rinse with water and wring out the pad thoroughly before cleaning with Bona wood Floor Cleaner. Use a slightly dampened, well wrung-out Bona Cleaning Pad, and thoroughly clean the floor surface with your Bona Mop. Finish one area before moving on to the next. When your cleaning pad becomes soiled, rinse it with water and wring out thoroughly before you continue cleaning.
Victorian and Georgian staircases tend to have many layers of paint which require removing particularly from the treads and risers. The removal of this paint is part of the renovation process and carried out prior to sanding. Typically, we strip, sand and seal treads and risers on Victorian staircases and lacquer finish in the same way that we would a floor. We use electric heat guns to melt and blister the paint as the first stage of the process, followed by a liquid chemical stripper and various grades of wire wool and then finally sandpaper, from approx P60 - P120 Grade.
The acoustic insulation process can be extremely effective in situations like upper flats in Victorian converted properties where a degree of noise is suffered from the neighbour below, and/or the owners of the top flat wish to minimize the amount of their own noise pollution suffered by their neighbours below. There are two basic types of sound pollution that can be diminished through sound-proofing, acoustic and impact. Acoustic insulation helps protect you and your neighbour, from the sound of voices, music and similar noises traveling through the shallow void space between your floor and your neighbours ceiling.
When you get the floor in your home sanded, the Bona Dust Care System captures the dust generated on the spot. That means your bookshelves, electronics, curtains, and furniture don't need to be covered before sanding or cleaned afterwards. In fact, the Bona dust-free sanding unit delivers air quality that's better and cleaner than the ambient air found in most homes.
