Floor Preparation the most important factor in your floor covering looking good and wearing well. The most important factor in ensuring that your floor covering looks good and wears how it should is the condition of the subfloor. Badly cupped floorboards or an uneven floor cannot be rectified with a thick underlay or a feather finish screed. Badly cupped boards can be a sign of ventilation problems or excessive moisture in the void space under the floor. This can be sometimes easily rectified. If left unchecked this can at best show through the final installation as ridges at worst (especially with wood) can be disastrous.
