Traditional wooden sash windows that we repair vary in age. Some of the earliest sash windows we have repaired date back to the late 1600s with the majority being Victorian. When looking at renovating windows it is important to know when the window was constructed, to what period of design and what materials were used such as Oak or European redwood. Once these points have been established then the condition can be assessed and a quotation can then be given. We will release both sashes and replace the ropes to enable the movement to be as designed.

Start by protecting your surfaces with pollythene lined cotton dust sheets to avoid any accidents. All paintwork must be washed with a sponge and sugar soap to remove any grease, dirt or dust prior to decorating as you may find flaking paint later on. Wash the paintwork thoroughly but do not soak the wood as it needs to be dry before you apply paint. Give any surfaces that are to be painted a good rub down with medium grit sandpaper but make sure you use a good quality dust mask as some old paints may contain lead?
