Installing loft insulation is one of the easiest and most cost effective measures that you can undertake. Our smart home model, which was calculated using the SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) model, would see savings of 370 per year. The ideal is to install 270mm of loft insulation and in most cases we would recommend installing a mineral wool quilt. Most loft insulation materials work by preventing the movement of heated air through the material. It is important that the material isn't stressed through stretching it, or compressing it during the installation process.

A solar thermal system is quite simple: a highly efficient collector usually made up of two to three panels is installed on the roof. These are connected to your hot water cylinder with two very well insulated special solar pipes. As the fluid in the pipes is circulated around the system it is heated by the sun directly and transfers the heat collected to the water in the cylinder. The top part of the cylinder is reserved for the boiler so that when there is not sufficient sun to heat the water the boiler will cut in and make up the hot water.

There are several methods of insulating solid walls. The insulation can be installed internally or externally. External insulation is likely to be more expensive but involves less disruption. We would always recommend targeted insulation at convenient times. So, for instance, if you are stripping out a room and re-decorating that would be the time to consider taking insulation measures internally. Similarly it may not be practical to apply external insulation to every wall however - but it may be quite easy and relatively inexpensive to insulate one or two appropriate sold walls.

Underfloor Heating systems are an excellent partner for Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pumps and work very well with high-efficiency boilers.

A Combination Boiler is a boiler that does all the work of a conventional system but has two appliances in one - a pressurised central heating boiler and an instant water heater. It's a solution that's space saving and highly efficient. The condensing part of the system means that the hot flue gas is recycled within the boiler so as much heat as possible is extracted from the gas you burn - saving money and reducing carbon emissions.
