Watkins and Walker Ltd is a growing company that specialises in the installation of plumbing, heating, ventilation and renewables. We offer a wide variety of services to a range of customers across the whole of South Wales. The company was formed in 2009 by its two owners Darryl Watkins and Anthony Drummond-Walker after working together as subcontractors on a number of building projects. For Darryl plumbing was in the blood as he followed his father into the industry. He has worked for over 20 years in the plumbing sector and has accumulated a vast knowledge of plumbing and heating.
In today's market there are many ways to solve a problem, even more so when heating a building. The choices available to the home owner or project manager are quite staggering when you look at the different technologies and then the different manufacturers. The individual parts of the heating system and building can no longer be treated in isolation. Good performance of the system will only be achieved if an integrated design approach is taken. We offer systems that are right for the project and we are not tied to any one manufacturer or technology, so believe we offer impartial advice.
Gas boilers are still the majority of boilers we install. Watkins and Walker are happy to install any type of boiler but the majority of our work is with Vaillant, Worcester, Baxi and Ideal. Oil boilers are a small but important part of our business allowing us to offer systems to many customers in areas without gas. We generally install Worcester boilers. We follow the manufacturer's instructions when we install a new boiler to ensure that it conforms to the current regulations and performs at its optimum.
Watkins and Walker started life as a new build plumbing and heating company. We have grown over the last 4 years to a well-rounded company that supports a number of industry sectors. New build work is still the core of our business and the number of new sites is growing, but it is decreasing as a percentage of the company turnover. We have found that as we work with more companies that repeat business seems to follow naturally from one project to the next. Good project and man management combined with quality work has led to growth in all sectors.
This is a large area of our work for us. Watkins and Walker have a number of builders and architects we work for on bespoke refurbishment work. It can be anything from a small house to special needs housing. The team at Watkins and Walker bring a unique combination of knowledge, flexibility and positive attitude to the project team. We pride ourselves on getting to the bottom of the customer requirements and delivering the plumbing, heating and electrics as a combined package which works seamlessly together.
Heating and plumbing is dependent on controls and electrics - they now go hand in hand. The difference between a good and bad system is the method of control. Watkins and Walker have taken this to heart and have their own electricians. As well as completing the electrical part of all our installations we are now offering a full mechanical package for house builders and domestic customers. House automation is becoming more common place with bespoke projects and having remote control of the heating will soon be a standard feature.
The company offers a complete range of services for the domestic market. We started in the domestic construction market as installers but have now grown into a fully rounded company offering the range of service and support needed for the systems we install. Good project management and a friendly service means we can deliver anything from a straight forward boiler swap for an individual home owner to a complete building site of mechanical services for a large PLC builder.
As well as the kitchen the bathroom can be the focal point of many houses. Creating that special environment in the bathroom is so important and the choice of sanitary is a minefield on its own. Watkins and Walker have worked with designers and home owners directly to deliver the right finish. We can provide the full finished bathroom or just the plumbing. Watkins and Walker work with all the major product brands and have no vested interested in the products chosen. We are happy to supply and fit or labour only.
Renewable energy is our fastest growing area of business. We can work with plans and mechanical drawings supplied by the customer or produce a full mechanical workup for the project. We are not tied to any one technology and therefore can offer the best solution for the project. We specialise in multiple boiler solutions so you can mix different types of renewables together or with traditional heat sources to achieve better running costs. From small to large we can offer more than one option to suit physical space and budgets.
Underfloor heating is more than a just a modern trend it is an efficient way, approximately 10% better than radiators, to heat your building. Although the pipe technology is well established the controls are becoming more complex every year, so a good knowledge of the systems is required to achieve the heating requirement. Watkins and Walker have extensive experience in installing underfloor systems both large and small. We can design, install and recommend when additional heating is required because the underfloor system will not deliver enough heat.
