Ellwood Ltd., a family owned business, manufactures wooden windows, doors, conservatories and orangeries in hardwood using traditional bespoke or hand made timber joinery techniques and a fully mitred system. All manner of solid wood doors - entrance doors, stable doors, French doors, sliding-folding (bi fold) doors. Also, we make flush fit and storm proof casement windows as well as fully balanced vertical sliding box sash windows. We can also supply and install uPVC and composite products using WHS Halo, Rehau, Rocal and Apeer (New World Developments, Ireland) profiles.
A myriad of styles is possible along with an equal array of glass designs for the doors. Stable doors are also a popular choice. We are often asked to provide fanlights, arched tops to door sets as well as side panels. Our doors are built mostly in solid hardwood Sapele (although uPVC or GRP style doors are also available). Door furniture and security is based around the latest security using espagnolette locking systems but retaining a very traditional look. All our timber doors are manufactured utilising a mitred and dovetailed corner joint method eliminating any exposed end grain normally seen on traditional joinery.
Electrical Underfloor Heating has had a mixed reception with the public and conservatory pundits alike. The problem has been that most conservatory vendors - generally in their rush to secure a customer's order and sometimes with a 'free promotional underfloor heating system- have often specified the lowest cost option and installed as cheaply as possible. At best these systems have worked to provide some semblance of background heating only and at worst have failed totally in their operation. This of course offers no great comfort for the customer who now has the system buried within the floor and a guarantee period that offers limited or no warranty backup!
Utilising mainly Red Grandis or Sapele hardwoods, we create superb windows designed mainly using a storm proof, wrap around system - tried and tested over many years in all weather conditions. We create traditional looking windows but utilising modern techniques such as espagnolette locking systems and steel reflex friction hinges. Alternatively a "Heritage" flush fit style is available normally using butt hinges and optional pegs and stays. There is a vast selection of styles and layouts possible utilising swept heads, cottage bars, transoms, modified mullions and of course a huge selection of glass styles where laminated glass can help alleviate noise problems, obscure or patterned glass can offer various degrees of privacy.
The first section covers the standard obscure glass or patterned glass options available. Additionally they are useful in door glazed areas and can be either the main glazed unit overall or act as a backing glass to other "fancy glass" designs. For example, in a front door you may have a clear diamond bevelled design with some leadwork but still want to retain a level of privacy. This is achieved by adding an obscure glass (usually chosen as "Minster", "Stippolyte" or "Contora") as the second sheet or "backing sheet" of glass in the double glazed unit.
