Grants to install central heating systems into homes are provided through a scheme called the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO). The scheme launched in 2013 and is set to run through until 2022. We are currently within the 3rd phase of the scheme, which commenced late 2018. The rules of the scheme and the size of the grants available changes from time to time, so you can not directly compare a grant available in 2020 to 2014. Grants to install First Time Central Heating increased in 2020. The ECO Scheme places an obligation on the large energy utilities to spend a set amount of money helping homes reduce their carbon output and also avoid fuel poverty.
QERB Energy is working in partnership with Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Energy Community and EDF Energy to provide and install 4kW Solar PV systems to qualifying homes in Plymouth. To qualify, your household income must be less than 30,000 after you have paid your mortgage or rent and fuel bills or someone in your household must be in receipt of one of the listed qualifying benefits, and your home must be heated via electric, for example Electric Storage Heaters, Electric Room Heaters or an Electric Boiler.
Homes built before the 1930's are usually of Solid wall construction. If your home is made of stone (ie granite, slate & sandstone etc), system built, concrete slab, timber, steel or any other material, please select solid walls. If you have cob walls they do not need insulating.
Houses built before 1990 may not have good quality wall insulation, with many homes having none at all! With about a third of all heat loss escaping through the walls according to the Energy Saving Trust, this can be quite a problem for your home. By simply having quality insulation properly installed into your cavity walls, you can make savings of up to 250 per year in heating bills! The only cavity wall insulation we install is EPS (expanded polystyrene) beads - also referred to as blown beads because they are blown into the cavity at high pressure.
External wall insulation, also known as EWI and external solid wall insulation, is a type of insulation that is attached to the outside of your walls. Two layers of material are used - one to offer insulation, and an outer layer of mineral or synthetic render to protect against weather and provide a decorative finish. By simply having quality insulation properly installed onto your walls, you can make savings of up to 435 per year on your heating bills! External wall insulation involves fixing a layer of insulation material to the wall, then covering it with a special type of render (plasterwork) or cladding.
1. Home is heated by Electric (ie Night Storage Heaters, Electric Room Heaters or Electric Boiler). What's the catch? There is no catch. This is not like other Solar offers on the market. There is no question over who owns the solar PV system, you do. You do not have to change your energy supplier or pay any ongoing fees for the electric you produce. There is no longer a Feed-In Tariff, but you will be able to apply for a new Smart Export Tariff should you wish. There is no maintenance contract to sign up to either.
If your home's loft insulation is currently 10cm deep or less, your home would benefit from increasing the amount of insulation to current building regulation levels of 27cm or more. As your home loses the majority of it's heat through the roof, fully insulating your loft helps to retain heat in your home, which in turn reduces your fuel bills and amount of carbon emissions produced. Loft Insulation Grants are available to homeowners and tenants that meet the ECO eligibility criteria. The grant amount awarded varies based on the property type and current heating system.
