For more than 20 years Steve Floyd (owner), has been successful in the conservatory & glazing industry, building the company based on personal recommendation achieved by not compromising on the product quality and service we offer to our customers. Steven Floyd and Jacqueline Floyd are the partners in the business. Since the year 2000 we located to Summerhill Garden Centre and have evolved with our sister brand Freedom Leisure into a comprehensive construction and design company able to undertake virtually any project presented to us, backed by the considerable experience and skills of our team, whether in the office or on site.
Bi-folding doors can complement any building giving a glass wall effect which provides panoramic views and brings the warmth and light of the outside in. Ideally suited as a room divider, patio screen or contemporary feature wall, bi-folding doors create a stylish and architecturally pleasing faade without harming the character of the building. We offer bi-fold doors in both aluminium and PVCu (which is significantly less in cost) however we would advocate aluminium as a preference as the systems derive from the commercial sector and have evolved over many, many decades being engineered to meet very rigorous industry standards with proven reliability & durability.
For many years polycarbonate was the default choice of roof material for most customers, being competitively priced, coupled with the failure of glass to address issues of heat gain/glare in the summer, heat loss/comfort in the winter, condensation, and cleaning with the added cost of roof blinds in the past. We now offer as standard a glass solution so successful and so advanced it has replaced polycarbonate as the most popular roof material of choice for conservatories so why settle for anything less.
The choice of glazing system for the roof, windows, & doors defines the quality and performance of any building over the long term so investing in the highest specification your budget allows is critical. Our aim when quoting a price is to offer all our customers in the 1st instance the opportunity to buy the 'ultimate' proven technical specification our industry can currently achieve. If this does not match with the budget available we work with each customer to offer alternative products to guarantee a competitive solution without loss of performance as we recognise sometimes compromise is necessary.
It is very important to us that we provide our customers with sound advice on the most appropriate construction method to reflect site conditions, based on our extensive local knowledge, past experience, and what a building inspector may consider 'best practice' although companies are under no obligation to do so where a conservatory is deemed to be exempt from building regulations particularly as this may increase costs and effect the competitiveness of their quote significantly. On projects where building control does apply it is often our practice to exceed the minimum requirements because it is the right thing to do.
At Essex Conservatories, we are building more and more single storey extensions traditionally styled with tiled roofs to match much closer the property with a specific use in mind such as a self-contained annexe for a family member, a home office offering a dedicated space to run a business, extending a Kitchen to become a modern family room and a growing list of requests to provide custom solutions for additional living space reflecting the many ways people want to live today. Although these projects are extensions they share many elements we associate with conservatories and orangery styling such as vaulted roofs incorporating various forms of glazing with a higher percentage of glass forming the walls using bi-fold doors, sliding doors, french doors & windows creating more contemporary open plan spaces, which flow & connect more naturally with the outdoors.
Getting this right is essential if the new addition to the home is to fulfil its full potential all year round but it is often viewed as a necessary after thought. Although we can offer some very sophisticated climate control systems if required most customers are served well by the four solutions detailed below. A practical cost effective answer is to extend the existing radiator circuit subject to the boiler capacity and efficiency of the existing pumps which can provide an adequate background heat to a building of mainly brick construction.
