The majority of door and window locks, hinges, handles and most moving components are covered under the manufacturers guarantee for one year only. After the initial one year of cover, the company where you bought your windows and doors from may not be interested in servicing the repairs or replacements that you need, or worse still the company may no longer be trading. We can usually obtain replacement components to meet the requirements from the many different profile suppliers and hardware manufacturers.
There are a lot of houses that cannot have Sealed Unit Double Glazing. Listed Buildings, Some Conservation areas, etc, are not allowed to change the appearance of the home or building and therefore do lose heat, feel draughts and also hear traffic and other noises more easily than more modern homes. We can help with both noise and heat issue by installing Secondary Glazing to the inside of your window. We can use Pilkington's K glass secondary glazing to reduce heat loss even further and can nearly match modern double glazed sealed units for heat retention, although not quite as good.
From time to time sealed units will 'break down' or 'mist up' and can look unsightly. They are usually covered under guarantee from the installation company, for a period of 5 or 10 years. It is always best to contact the company who installed the glass originally to clarify whether the units are covered. It is unfortunate in the window industry, that there are a lot of companies, which over the years have ceased trading and there are thousands of customers who are left with windows, doors and conservatories without a guarantee.
Twice yearly cleaning and lubrication of all moving parts can save 's in the long run. Locks and hinges and handles can last for years if looked after and can prove costly if they need replacing. Poly-carbonate roof sheets are susceptible to mould growth and also become brittle over the years. The sheet materials can be exchanged for new, replacements or upgraded to a more suitable sheet material should you require them. These days there are better insulating, heat reflecting pol-carbonates that can perform two or three times better than the original specifications.
