Beaver Floorcare were engaged by Novus Solutions and Birmingham University to carry out wood floor refinishing to the oak floor in the Duck and Scholar within the Vale Student Village. The floor had suffered badly from heavy foot traffic and deep scratches from dragging/moving of sofas and furniture. Our process for restoring the surface involved the use of belt sanding, edgework, corners and detail, klindex timba and the festool rotex for some areas. The scratches were deep so we had a fair amount of 36 grit cutting to remove the amount of timber required, this was then followed on by using 60, 80 & 100 grits to achieve the smooth faultless finish.

Wood floors in commercial buildings are subjected to a great deal of wear and footfall, this can be detrimental to the sealed surface if the correct wood floor maintenance is not carried out on a periodic basis. When floor sanding and restoration works have taken place the surface is sealed using a lacquer, oil or hardwax oil the floor looks like new, it will look this way for a reasonable amount of time with the correct cleaning. When the appearance starts to dip slightly it is at this time that a very light scrub and seal should take place, this means you are replenishing the top surface of lacquer, oil or hardwax oil that has worn.

Wood Floor Sanding is often thought to be a dusty and messy process, not anymore! The development in portable dust extraction has changed considerably over the last 10 years and you can now sand a wooden floor without any airborne dust from the sanding process. Beaver Floorcare carry a variety of portable dust extractors that remove the fine particles from the floor and the sanding machines and retain them in sealed containers, this enables us to sand large volumes of wood floors cleanly and safely.
Concrete is a versatile flooring material which has commonly been used as a sub floor base or an industrial floor surface, this still occurs however the benefits of polishing concrete are increasingly becoming realised. When concrete is polished it is a very hard wearing and stain resistant floor surface, the results can be beautiful and visually stunning along with very maintenance friendly qualities. The process involved when concrete grinding & polishing utilises the application of diamond abrasives, these are harder diamonds than you would use to grind marble or softer stones.

Beaver Floorcare have been involved in wood floor restoration projects on both a large and small scale. This involves everything from wood floor sanding, staining, oiling, lacquering, court marking and ongoing maintenance. We have always encompassed wood floor repairs in our repertoire of restoration services, this requires an understanding of timber species, wood floor fitting, sub floor types, adhesives, fittings and correct expansion requirements. Our wood floor repair service stretches from a single board or strip replacement in a residential living room prior to restoration all the way to block replacement on a parquet floor in a school, museum or restaurant.
Hardwoodfloors require cleaning just as much as any other floor, however there are considerations to be taken in to account. Firstly you need to ascertain if the wood is sealed with an oil, hardwax oil, water or oil based lacquer, this is important as it will dictate what type of cleaner and machinery you use. Once you have found this information you can then start and find which are the safest wood floor cleaners for your floor, be careful of purchasing cleaners off the supermarket shelf as they might cause damage to an oiled floor.
It is proven that regular contract floor maintenance will prolong the lifespan of floor coverings, this has been demonstrated by our teams of operatives for many years in many different environments. The lifecycle of floor materials will deteriorate rapidly if the correct maintenance procedures are not installed from the day of installation, implementing these will avoid restoration and crisis cleaning. It is vitally important that the correct methods are adhered to as this will affect the long term results, the methods should be carried out by trained operatives that are well versed in floor maintenance procedures.

The general cleaning of materials is mostly required no matter what it is, it could be your kitchen sink or it could be a bicycle that you use periodically, all things need cleaning from time to time. If you don't clean and maintain products and materials they will rust, tarnish or degrade past any recoverable state. These can then sometimes present risks for health issues, biological contamination and or ingestion of harmful substances or bacteria. Carpets are a prime example when not cleaned properly or maintained correctly.
Cleaning floors can be carried out in various ways using multiple system types and different chemicals. Firstly, we identify the floor type. There are so many different flooring types that it is important you know what your looking to clean. In today's market there are ceramic tiles that look like wood, vinyl tiles that look like stone, if necessary we contact the manufacturer if we're uncertain. Once we have identified the floor type, we must select the right type of floorcare machinery and cleaning chemicals to carry out the task successfully.

Natural stone floors can be exceedingly beautiful whether they are marble, granite, slate, limestone, travertine, onyx, basalt or sandstone however they will all need to be cleaned and maintained correctly. There are many ways to clean stone floors but before you attempt any cleaning you should be aware of the composition of different stone types, this will determine which chemicals you can and cannot use. Tip: Always find out exactly what stone type you have before cleaning! Igneous rocks are formed from the solidification of magma deep in the earth, they are 45-66% silica (Quartz).
Correct floor maintenance within any facility will be reflected in the overall appearance and cleanliness of the installation. Poorly maintained carpets, upholstery and hard floors can create negative impressions with clients and employees alike. It can eventually lead to premature replacement, this is expensive in terms of capital outlay and disruption. Inadequate cleaning has health and safety implications in the presence of biological allergens - dust mites, moulds and mildews which are not always removed by daily cleaning.
When attempting to clean or restore exterior surfaces it is very important to know what sort of material and surface you are working on, this determines what chemicals and methods of cleaning can and can't be used. Exterior floor surfaces are generally subjected to more contaminant variables than interior surfaces, these can be pollutants, algae, mosses, lichen, acid rain and leaf derived materials, so the cleaning method selection is important to ensure that the results are achieved. Beaver Floorcare carries a large amount of machinery to cope with small to very large commercial projects, this can be large scrubbing machines to lightly agitate the surface or high-pressure water jetting machinery should the surface be stable enough to withstand high PSI.
Timber decking has increased in popularity throughout the UK. It provides a Mediterranean feel to many outdoor living spaces. The negative aspect to decking is the cleaning and maintenance. Our decking restoration and maintenance service will transform any old decking into a desirable area once more. The decking restoration process that we undertake can differ slightly on the type of timber decking you have. We avoid sanding the decking unless it is absolutely necessary. Our algae and organic growth remover will remove the unsightly green, slimy growth that occurs due to the British climate.
When assessing types of paving before they are cleaned and protected it is important to determine whether it is a natural stone such as sandstone, limestone, slate, granite, a reconstituted material, synthetic stone or printed concrete. Beaver Floorcare will assess the material before carrying out any test area clean, this is time well spent and will dictate the results achieved. We use a variety of systems for cleaning interior and exterior paving, these will comprise of heated systems, high pressure, chemical and mildly abrasive when required.
