This old flue had been left way to long and produced a full gorilla bucket of soot which could have caused a chimney fire or carbon monoxide issues. Power sweeping effectively cleared the flue and now the open fire is safe to use by the new owners of the property.
Another condemned burner. Again because the installer didn't fit a cowl. Anti down draft Bird guard cowls don't just prevent birds nesting in flue's but stop rain and moisture reaching your burner. *Here is an example of the damage rain water and lack of sweeping can do to a woodburner.
This burner had perished due to water ingress. When a cowl has corroded or the cement cap around the chimney pot has gone, rain water can enter the masonry/cast in situ or metal flue and end up damaging your woodburner beyond repair. *The classic part to go is this round plate which sits at the back.
This client reported his neighbour saw a Jackdaw diving into his chimney and thought best to get it checked out. A complete blockage from a birds nest could result in dangerous gases entering your home or even a chimney fire. It amazes me the Hetas installer signed off this installation without.
