Our staff are committed to ensuring that you get the best service and advice available. We specialise in the supply of traditional, natural and sustainable building and decorating products for all types of buildings. Our aim is to encourage people to protect not only their investment in a property, but also more broadly the architectural heritage and skills that it represents.

Firstly, we had to give the roof a greater pitch and better overhang to allow for the external wall insulation. We chose Pavaflex and Isolair wood fibre insulation also from Pavatex, the details of which may be found at our case study for natural roof insulation. The walls have to be levelled to create a surface that will not leave any voids when the Diffutherm wood fibre boards are fitted. The system is breathable and would usually require a lime mortar backing. The boards are then placed onto an aluminium base rail the thickness of the boards used.

Lime mortars for lime pointing are generally softer and more porous compared to mixes using cement therefore allowing moisture to evaporate from the joints more freely. This can help to lower moisture levels in the wall and reduce the build up of soluble salts in the stone face, therefore reducing potential damage or ‘spalling' of the masonry. As with all lime based materials the best outcome requires patience and careful control of drying and suction. Our video and guidance notes in this section will help you to achieve aesthetically pleasing and long lasting lime pointing.

Check if the building is listed before starting any work. You may also need to contact the local authority Conservation Officer to discuss the project before proceeding. Remove any existing failed plaster and paint. Check the structure for damage. Repair any defects with like-for-like materials and dub out any holes with Haired Lime Mortar. Limes are caustic. Always wear eye protection and protective gloves and clothing and follow the safety instructions on the labels.

Didn't actually buy anything from Mike Wye Associates but got some really useful advice from Matt there via one of their manufacturers about a similar product (Savolit Plus wood wool board) which they sell and which I needed to cut into.
