Johnson Designs, established in 1992, is an award winning architectural technology practice specialising in home extensions and new build individual houses. Based in Chichester and Four Marks, the Practice has successfully prepared many hundreds of designs and building drawings for Planning and Building Regulation requirements. We identified the potential of the garden space of an ex-Local Authority town centre dwelling. The many difficult planning issues raised by this project were overcome and Planning and Building Regulation permissions were obtained for a small, detached house with 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and WC. This was a first time buyer self-build project. Extending or building new dwellings in the green belt and the countryside can be fraught with many difficulties and stumbling blocks.

We specialise in adding extensions where stiff objections are apparent, and we are able to work with your requirements to achieve the appropriate permissions for building and planning. Johnson Designs have the knowledge and expertise to help on any project. This was a small bungalow sited in a large plot. Despite stiff regulatory issues and objections, we were able to maximise the financial potential of this property. Planning and Building Regulation permission was obtained for substantial side and rear extensions and to lift the roof to create additional bedrooms and bathrooms within the attic space.

Johnson Designs successfully carried out this project within the green belt, creating a large 3 bay garage with workshop and annex accommodation within the cavernous roof space. Constructed with weatherboard cladding on an oak frame beneath a clay tiled roof, the structure harmonises well with the new 7 bedroom house that we also designed.
