We are Chartered Architects based in Somerset undertaking projects across the South West region & beyond. The buildings and spaces we design are elegantly functional, imaginative, highly sustainable and cost effective. Our success is built on the excellent working relationships we have with our clients. LED Architects is a quality assured RIBA Chartered Practice that provides the full range of services from concept design through to completion of the finished building. In addition, we provide cost management advice, Principal Designer services (CDM), master-planning and Historic/Listed Building services.

We are a quality assured RIBA Chartered Practice that provides the full range of architectural services, together with cost management advice. The practice was founded in 1957 and has a proven track record of successfully designing and completing a wide spectrum of building types and facilities. Our service is very much client-focused, professional and friendly with each project having 'hands-on' partner involvement. We believe it is essential to work closely with our clients in order to fully understand their requirements and, in turn, clearly communicate our proposals.

Whether it's a major residential scheme of mixed unit sizes and types or an educational campus requiring a five-year development plan, LED Architects have the proven experience and resource to provide this important design service. Not only do we undertake the architectural design elements, but we also manage and coordinate the input of other specialist consultants such as highway engineers, ecologists, services engineers, etc. Master planning takes into account a full range of criteria that may affect development such as unit types and density levels; highway access; vehicular & pedestrian movement; site topography; landscape and ecology; services infrastructure requirements; flood risk assessment; acoustics; visual impact analysis and so on.

Whether it is a large residential development of mixed house types, a new multi-bedroom boarding house for students or an individual dwelling for a private client, we have the knowledge, skills and resources to deliver innovative and effective design solutions. We take great care with our clients to examine sustainable construction options, and apply these to all types and sizes of residential projects from large detached eco-houses to small, bespoke extensions.

At LED Architects we pride ourselves on producing projects that reflect a high level of commitment to good quality sustainable design. Our design evaluation for a typical building project includes the impact of the site and local ecology, sustainable methods of construction, specification of materials (recycled, renewable, recyclable etc), potential inclusion of renewable technologies, the possible use of local skills and craftsmen. We encourage our clients to consider this approach as part of the design and construction process that can provide major benefits, both environmental and financial.

If the client wishes to appoint a building contractor by means of a competitive tender to undertake the project, LED Architects has the knowledge & experience to organise and manage this process. Following receipt of tenders, LED Architects will analyse the figures received and help advise the client on the final selection. During the construction stage of any building project it is very important for the client to have a formal contract in place with the selected building contractor. At LED Architects, we advise on the type of contract and ensure it is correctly administered whilst the project is being undertaken, including the subsequent defect period that may be agreed.

Many of the projects undertaken by LED Architects involve works to historic buildings that affect their fabric directly or their setting. The type of building may vary from an individual 18th century residential property to an Elizabethan manor, from a 19th century regency school house to an early 20th century library building. LED Architects has the knowledge & experience of dealing with Historic England and local authority conservation officers to ensure successful Listed Building applications for our clients.

A few more wintry amateur lockdown photos for discussion new clients about spaces, volumes, specialists and passivhaus principles balanced with architectural design aspirations.

We are submitting lots of bids this new year for lots of exciting new opportunities. The lockdown has blocked plans for getting professional photos done of our leading completed house projects. Something I feel we lack hugely as a practice. Anyway, my best attempt for the sake of getting bids in, .
