Rodney Black Design Studios Limited combines the earlier practice of Geary and Black, originally established in 1962, and the sister company Geary and Black Limited, established in 1995 to carry out specialist reconstruction work in Japan following the Kobe earthquake - the only British company appointed. The practice specialises in new buildings, conservation of historic buildings and regeneration works with many completed projects in the UK and abroad. The diverse portfolio includes new houses, alterations and extensions, furniture, gardens, follies, pools and cartlodges.
We have been actively involved in the conservation of historic buildings for many years. Our work to date includes 5 Grade I listed buildings, 5 Grade II* listed buildings and numerous Grade II listed buildings and we have received awards for conservation and craftsmanship. The creche, kitchen and access WC facilities at Grade I Listed St Martin's Church, Tuddenham St. Martin. The backlit oak panelled ceiling, new mullioned window, the oak joinery and encaustic tiled floor are all new. Grade I Listed Bower House was completely repaired and restored including re-roofing, installing new dormer windows and removing intruded stud walls to reinstate the original floor plan.
We are keen that our properties are set off in the most appropriate way and landscaping often forms part of the overall project which can include layouts, plant selection, follies, orangeries, ornamental and swimming pools and pool houses.
