Living Space Architects is an award-winning chartered RIBA practice based in Exeter, Devon. Established in 2004 by Kirsty Curnow-Bayley and Stuart Bayley, we have a passion for creating well-designed, imaginative and exciting projects that are both environmentally and socially sustainable. We specialise in sustainable contemporary design and the alteration and adaption of historic buildings. By using local materials, maintaining an environmental approach and designing and building in an innovative way that compliments the surroundings, we aim to keep the South West special.
We have a reputation as designers of high-quality residential developments across the South West and have developed an extensive portfolio of work throughout the country. We work with major national house builders, commercial agents and private developers to help them get the most value out of their developments. Our commercial portfolio includes housing developments, sports facilities, offices and specialist heritage work. Having had the opportunity to develop detailed briefs for over 400 private clients within the residential sector and over 70% of these have been older clients.
Our recent interiors projects has challenged us to delve into different interior styles and bring them together in harmony - which is also known as ‘eclectic' style. Our client was intrigued by a few different interior design trends. Some say this is shouldn't be done, but whether we know it or not, we are constantly mixing different trends. Here at living space, we feel every space should be individual and mixing different styles makes this easy to achieve (you've just got to do it right)!
The directors at Living Space have over 40 years combined experience working within the residential sector, on both commercial projects and with private clients. We have an exceptional record in achieving planning permission, particularly on difficult sites and within conservation areas. We regularly collaborate with planning consultants to make sure we get the most out of your site and project. Our specialist conservation architects can help you with works to listed buildings or within sensitive heritage areas that impact on historic buildings.
We believe buildings should be sustainable as a matter of course and not just a tag on green extra. That's sometimes difficult to achieve, but we encourage our clients wherever possible to create developments that are as sustainable as possible within their budget. Our expertise and experience of using sustainable technologies and a fabric first approach helps our clients achieve this, even with older and listed buildings. This includes using natural insulation materials that breathe, combined with the latest technology to heat and ventilate your home.
Our designs for new build homes take inspiration from the landscape they sit in and the way our clients live. We don't have a set style; we love getting to know you and creating designs that take you further than your own imagination. As well as designing a beautiful new home for you, we also have a fantastic record of achieving planning consent on difficult sites, even where others have failed and we can also help you control your budget and manage the contractor with your builder to get your build completed on time.
Our interior design service allows our clients to finish off their bespoke architecture with an interior space that perfectly complements it. Working with our in-house interior designer, we offer clients a full interior design service - from concept sketches to final renders of the space. The design process aims to help clients make the most of their spaces, going beyond what they imagine in order to provide them with intelligent and innovative solutions to their aspirations. Taking on board our clients' needs, wants and design preferences in order to enhance the ways in which their ideal interiors are realised.
Living Space Architects have an huge amount of experience of extending and refurbishing existing buildings. We offer an initial sketch design service to help kick start your project and give advice on design options, planning issues and costs. Our designs are site specific drawing from the existing architecture and landscape - we do not have a specific style. If you think you could benefit from one of our design sessions, call our team in our Exeter office for some help and advice.
