I design luminaria because I want to share my sense of wonder at the phenomenon of light. A luminarium provides the frame for an encounter with a light whose surprising and simple intensity cuts through conditioned perception. Founder, designer and artistic director Alan first started experimenting with pneumatic sculptures in the I980s and has since developed his own language of form in this plastic medium. In 1992 he established the company to build and tour his luminarium designs. Since, Architects of Air, a Nottingham based company has made over 500 exhibitions in 3more then 40 countries.

Explore the joys of pneumatic architecture through creative teamwork in the building of inflatable structures. Architects of Air design and build and we want to support others to design and build. Alan Parkinson has led inflatable-making workshops since 1982 and our recent collaboration with Dutch architect, Eric Schrijver, has added an extra dimension to what we can offer. We can provide anything from a short 4-hour taster introduction involving both theory and making practice, to a long-term build workshop that enables an organisation to achieve a significant structure of their own creation.

We always enjoy seeing shared memories of previous events and this one is a special one for us. Reaching all the way back to 1996 when we exhibited Meggopolis at Chapelfield Park as part of the Norwich Cathedral 900 celebrations. These relationships are so important to us.

We've seen a lot of love inside our luminaria over the past 29 years as we toured the world. Friends, families, relationships, proposals, even weddings. Today is February 14th and we're sending you all some of that love.

It's always beautiful for us to see the effect that our luminaria have on the people come to experience them. Some visitors sit in contemplation, some are so struck by the light and colour that they simply stand in awe. Some visitors find our luminaria the perfect place to cuddle their children, .
