Gillard Associates won a competition to reorganise and remodel the staff rooms and administrative areas of the Grade 1 listed castle which had not been refurbished since Atlantic College took ownership in the 1960s. The conservation work involved stone replacement, particularly around the heavily weathered windows, and also the rebuilding of a Victorian mock mediaeval timber framed hall which forms part of a collection of buildings brought into the castle by the one time owner, Randolph Hearst. After the building envelope and fabric had been secured, we then coordinated the interior design.

We got a planning consent for our Hidden House! Our client couldn't get permission for a conventional building on a sensitive village site. so we went underground. The Hidden House is invisible but offers a spacious and wonderful rural retreat to its lucky owner. We overcame prejudices against.

Looking forward to the Structural Timber Awards 2020 Ceremony where our Little Bryn Gwyn project is shortlisted. Sadly we won't all be going off for a banquet and laser show, just an afternoon in front of a zoom screen. Can't wait for the building to be full of young people and chaos. It looks a bit empty right now.
