Established in 1993 as the Ormerod Design Group, the practice was born of a desire to provide high quality architectural services encompassing all aspects of building procurement. We are based in Leeds and undertake projects across the UK and worldwide. With a design team of proven skill and fresh vision, Ormerod Sutton aims to ensure you receive a professional service of the highest standard in both the design and administration of your project. In 2010, Ormerod Sutton Architects Ltd. achieved full Chartered Practice status with the RIBA, ensuring continued excellence across our range of services.
Founded as a practice in 1993 and privately held, Ormerod Sutton Architects Ltd. is a multidisciplinary, RIBA Chartered architectural practice in Leeds, Yorkshire, providing bespoke property development solutions for a wide range of public and private clients. As project architects, we are responsible for delivering an average of £3m in combined certificated project values per year and the practice continues to grow. Our team has diverse experience in many areas of property development, including commercial and domestic architecture, conservation, refurbishment, interior design, CDM co-ordination, surveying and planning.
Conservation has been at the forefront of our architectural philosophy for decades and we have been fortunate enough to be invited to supervise architectural works on a varied selection of truly remarkable historic buildings. We have strong experience of working with listed buildings of all grades, including places of worship, community buildings and private residences. Our current long term projects include two Grade I listed medieval churches in Lincolnshire, where we are the conservation architects.
Our clients were delighted to be informed that after several months of negotiation with Harrogate Borough Council, Ormerod Sutton Architects Ltd. had secured planning approval for their ideal property. The brothers run a successful import/retail business and were seeking a property which enabled them to live separately but work together on a single site. The previous use of the land was somewhat of an eyesore, as can be seen below. The new property will combine one commercial unit of B8 classification and two residential C3 elements to enable the brothers to expand their business and simultaneously settle into their first homes.
We help our clients to create stimulating and inviting work environments that both reflect and enhance their working lives, whilst responding to business, practical and technical demands. We also have a proven track record in the complimentary disciplines of interior design, furniture design and landscaping, enabling us to offer a complete commercial architecture solution whilst ensuring continuity of design. For over 20 years, we have maintained a strong commercial relationship with Majestic Wine Warehouses Plc and Kwik Fit (GB) Ltd, having successfully delivered a combined total of over 1,100 retail store refurbishments and new builds for these two clients alone.
When you don't have much space in your home, you are looking for clever solutions that use every part of the interior in the best possible way. A good design and creativity can make any small apartment feel like a spacious home.

New two storey extension in Ackworth. Helping client to chose the look and materials for external finishes. Option A render at ground floor and dark timber cladding at first floor. Option B grey brick at ground floor with cream timber cladding at first floor.#render #brick #timbercladding.
We absolutely love the use of the charred timber cladding which is called Shou Sugi Ban a traditional Japanese method of preserving timber.
As architects, we love appropriate use of class Q permitted development as it is literally architectural recycling, so were keen to explore the possibilities of the barn.
