Iestablished ArchiLife in 2013. I specialise in house extensions, attic conversions and internal alterations, because I want to help clients like you get the most out of your home in an imaginative and cost-effective manner. I love it when a few small changes transform how a space functions, be that adding an extra room or rearranging the existing rooms. I offer a personalised stage by stage architectural service to suit your project and budget. Whether you require planning and building warrant applications or for me to administer the contract through to completion on site.
I offer a personalised stage by stage architectural service to suit your project and budget. Whether you require planning and building warrant applications or for me to administer the contract through to completion on site. I have professional experience of managing projects from initial brief to successful completion and can guide you through each stage. Call or email me to discuss your project. I would love to hear about your property and the changes you would like to make. I can look at any photos, schedules or existing drawings to get an idea of what is possible to transform your property.
This ground floor flat in Bonnington, Edinburgh, had an incredible sunny garden. Disabled adaptations were required to make the flat accessible by wheelchair. The challenge was to construct an access ramp without ruining the garden or views from the flat. Also, the existing bathroom was too small to be easily used by my clients. A new access ramp runs the whole length of the garden, with a path leading between existing trees to a summer house and onto a timber deck and new level threshold glazed doors into the flat.
My clients home in Gilmerton, Edinburgh, had a typical kitchen that was separate from their dining and living room. They wanted a more connected space for cooking and eating, as well as more space in general. The rear wall of the house was taken down. A new house extension containing a dining/family room was constructed. Large bi-fold doors connect the space to a new patio to enjoy the established garden. A door to the front lets in light and allows easy access to the kitchen with shopping. A view of the garden from the kitchen is framed by a window to the rear.
My client's owned a 3 bedroom, one bathroom upper villa flat with attic storage space in Leith, Edinburgh. The attic conversion forms a master suite with spacious bedroom, dressing area and en suite. The new stairs open onto the hall as required by the fire safety building regulations. An existing bedroom is slightly smaller to make room for the stair. This bedroom still works well with loads of storage space carefully designed below the stair. My clients owned a substantial four bedroom semi detached house with attic storage space in Liberton, Edinburgh.
I specified the emergency lighting, signage and ventilation to the basement storage area and promptly produced the detailed drawings required for building warrant. My knowledge of the building regulations and building warrant process enabled my client to open their shop quickly.
My clients new build 3 bedroom townhouse in Portobello had a separate kitchen and living/dining room, on a different floor to their garden. The only access to the garden was via a bedroom! The house didn't suit the way they wanted to live as a family. This imaginative and cost effective garage conversion relocates the kitchen to the ground floor. The existing kitchen units are reused to save money and wastage, with just a few more units added to create a sociable island. The existing corner sofa is positioned in a new alcove.
Happy Valentine's day Nothing quite says I love you like an old drainage map of Edinburgh

Happy extended holidays! Thank you to all my lovely clients for what has been my busiest year yet. I've so many projects to share once I've had the chance to pause and reflect. I'm having a break until the 6th of January. Then I'll be starting new projects on zoom again, as I can't visit your home.
