Loft Conversions - 90% of the loft conversions we carry out involve the changing of the existing roof shape and the addition of a dormer window to the rear elevation. A lot of loft conversions can be carried out under Permitted Development as long as the additional area added externally does not exceed 50 cubic metres for detached and semi-detached houses. Terraced properties are restricted to 40 cubic metres. We also have to position dormer windows at the rear and/or side. Any dormer window added to the front elevation would require planning permission and are normally rejected if the properties within your street are very similar in appearance and dormer windows are not an original design feature.
