M J Salmon & Son is a well-established building company based in Histon near Cambridge. For 40 years we have been carrying out extensions, loft conversions, new builds, barn conversions, kitchen fitting, bathroom installation, carpentry and roofing. When carrying out work on your home we know that you are not just spending money but investing in your property. You are therefore looking for a return on that investment and help in creating a home that will be an asset and an enjoyment for years to come.
Your roof covering is what keeps your home dry and warm. We often take it for granted, but water getting in through the roof can do a lot of damage. It is worth checking periodically to make sure it is in good condition and keeping you dry. If you have missing or slipped tiles and slates, it is wise to seek professional advice on putting it right. If you let water into your home, repairs to structure and your possessions can be very expensive. We can fit pitched roofs over existing flat roofs, carry out re-roofs of slate and tile roofs, and replacements of flat and single ply flat roofing.
We have carried out many bathroom refurbishments, creating clean, fresh bathrooms and shower rooms with highly individual bathing areas and incorporating many different wall and floor finishes, and a wide range of sanitary ware. Did you know you can save money on utilities and add energy efficiency to your home by updating old fixtures and fittings? We will always adopt the most energy efficient approach when renovating a bathroom or shower room. As well as improving your own comfort a bathroom remodel can provide a good return on investment if you pay attention to the details, and that's where we come in.
We have carried out many garage conversions, creating bright and warm spaces for new dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, utility rooms, bathrooms and even complete self-contained living spaces. The up-side of converting your garage is that much of the structure is already in place, and therefore it may cost less than you think to create an additional room in your home. Whether it is a ground floor or double storey extension, whether it is conventional brick and block construction or timber framed, you can be assured of a high quality and professional job with M J Salmon & Son. We can work from plans provided by our clients. If you haven't got that far, we can suggest the services of some of the best architects, technicians and engineers in Cambridgeshire. They can help you to start your project with innovative creative solutions, and provide quality and affordable plans and specifications.
Have you always wanted to build your own home to your own specification? You can choose the rooms and room sizes that work best for you and family. You can have vaulted ceilings, spacious entrance hall, large kitchen diner, open plan living or a low carbon / energy efficient house. It's economical too. New build is VAT free, so you will save 20% on your investment, boosting your financial return. A new property build is a major undertaking so it's important to choose the right building company. We have a wealth of experience in new builds and can help you from initial design and planning permission through to construction and completion.
Are you tired with draughty windows and doors? Are your windows deteriorating badly with peeling paint and splitting wood? This can result in wood rot and eventually lead to structural issues. It is possible to carry out repairs but sometimes you need to consider replacing damaged windows and doors. Perhaps the style of windows and doors you have don't suit your house. The right windows and doors can transform your house both inside and out. Your front door should create a warm welcome and set the tone of the house as well as giving your property 'kerb appeal'.
It can be costly and stressful to move home so many families choose to convert their loft area instead. By choosing a loft conversion, you are utilising space that is already available. Work taking place in the loft can also be less disruptive than a major extension to an existing living space. If you don't have the space to build out or you don't want to lose garden space, you can go up. If you have sufficient headroom in your loft space to provide a comfortable height, after the floor has been built up slightly (with strengthening, insulation and boarding added to the underside of the rafters), then you could have a loft conversion.
We enlisted the services of Matt and his team to construct a wrap-around ground floor extension. The entire team displayed a high level of professionalism, and the build quality and finishing were superb. They managed to complete the project within the agreed budget, which was impressive. We highly recommend their services without hesitation.
We appointed MJ Salmon last year to extend our living and kitchen area. We got 2 quotes and chose MJS because we liked their approach and felt that having a project manager to oversee everything and be responsible for all the trades involved would make the process as hassle free as possible.
We were right. MJS has a core team but also access to an extended team of groundmen, plasterers, painters, plumbers and electricians. All these people are tried and tested so the quality of work is assured and, I have to say, we were very impressed with the attention to detail and that at every stage of the process this work was reviewed and checked.
All the tradespeople we met were polite and courteous. It was also obvious from watching them work that they were experienced professionals.
It turned out to be a bigger project than we thought but all the work carried out by MJS remained within budget.
We could not be happier with the result which really has the WOW factor. We have no hesitation in recommending MJ Salmon and have already done so on several occasions. We are currently using them to revamp our utility room.

Nice feature brickwork. We love the visuals and also the fact that it would be so strong and stable. A little engineering and visual materpiece.
