Our client bought a Victorian Gothic house in Kensington which was in a poor state of repair both externally and internally. Indeed very little had been done to the property since the 1970s. The challenge was taking a period house and converting it into a property fit for the twenty-first century without falling foul of the conservation regulations was for London architects and interior designers Stanza Design a fantastic challenge. By accepting the constraints inherent in the architecture enabled the fusion of the modern with the traditional, we have completely refurbished the structure, re-planned to make better use of space and generally modernized the whole property.

The retail experience is linked to visual merchandising and we know, at Stanza Design that it can only be maximized if the interior design of your shop has been fully thought through and is both creative and practical. We will work with you and your brand managers from concept to completion in order to create effective solutions for both individual and rollout identities. We will help your sales teams to create the very best Interiors; the perfect space for staff to serve and entertain the customer being vital to the success of the sales process as a whole.

Our client bought a very run down mews house and after analysis of the proposed layout and structure the decision was made to demolish most of the house retaining the front and party walls only. This fresh start enabled a flowing set of spaces to be created including a double height living room. The property has been thoroughly modernized but still respects its Victorian Heritage.

This Edwardian property was originally consisted of two flats and we converted it back to a family house. Essentially the client wanted an open plan ground floor, cinema room, 4 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a gym. They wish to have modern architecture internally while at the same time preserving the traditional character of the house externally. Substantial structural alterations were needed to achieve the client's wishes, all the internal walls on the ground floor were removed and for good measure we took out an exterior wall to create a side extension.

The brief required a radical increase in the reception room space and after much deliberation the lower ground floor was completely remodeled with increased headroom. This gave the client better interconnected spaces, which an extension at the rear couldn't offer without compromising the beautiful garden. The lower levels have a crisp and contemporary feel with the use of large format limestone slabs and expansive glazing creating a strong connection with external spaces. The area facing the garden has a double height space, which was achieved despite a discreet and low-key side extension.

The narrow façade of this early Victorian town house hides an interior of rich volumes. Reconstructed behind a retained facade, the new generous floor to ceiling heights along with the introduction sliding pocket doors create a light and spacious family home. Through the addition of simple single story extensions, large family and entertaining spaces were created on the lower ground floor. An interlinked kitchen, dining and family area open on to a balcony and re-landscaped garden. The first floor was comprehensively reorganised to provide a large master suite and bedroom, the upper floors were organized to provide children's rooms and guest bedrooms.
