Wisam taught a Diploma studio at Kingston University before reading for an MBA at Imperial College to better enable the practice to understand the requirements of commercial clients. We are also on the RIBA's Chartered Practice Task Group to deliver the Chartered Practice Scheme in 2007. The Scheme aims to offer clients the "gold standard" of service to expect from an architectural Practice. The practice is a small and friendly team of designers, approachable and driven by good design and good client relationships.

This project started with a Design in a Day workshop where, together with our clients, we explored different layout options and ideas for the kitchen extension and for the refurbishment of the first floor bathroom. M&D wanted to improve the family living space whilst retaining the original feel of the house, particularly it's traditional details and use of timeless materials. Every product, material and colour were carefully thought through and were a pleasure to work with. The understated elegance of the space is a pleasure to experience.

Our 'Design in a Day' experience was fantastic. They seemed to really get what we wanted to do. The final presentation helped us decide what we did and did not want to move forward with. We decided to continue with A:WK all the way through to finished construction drawings and now feel confident and well-armed moving into the actual build. Don't Move Improve Awards: Our clients wanted to replace an existing conservatory and kitchen and build an infill extension to create a family kitchen and living space, without losing the connection or the light to the original dining room. The property is in a Conservation Area in Richmond Borough and is also a Building of Townscape Merit. There was also a room above the outrigger with a non-compliant staircase opening into the existing kitchen. The scheme proposed a series of glass ‘boxes' to the roof, most importantly one that connects the new space with the dining room to allow a view of the sky, create sufficient head room and allow light into the now inner space.

The design in a day workshop really stood out as what we were looking for. We like to be involved in the design process and a collaborative approach was just what we were looking for. From the moment AWK received our call, they showed genuine enthusiasm and passion for the project taking a real interest in the design features of our house. We achieved a huge amount in just half a day, and AWK gave us expertise and design ideas that a builder could not. The drawings, 3D renders and mood boards we received back really brought the ideas to life and have been a great way to help us visualise the new space.

I really love the new kitchen and the space you designed. It is so light and welcoming but still works with the rest of the house. I hope you are as pleased with it as we are. We really enjoyed working with you on this project and would strongly recommend your practice to other people. Thank you so much for the wine as well. We shall certainly raise a glass to you and your team. This bright, light-filled kitchen extension adds a wonderful new family space to a lovely family home in Wimbledon. Pitched ridge skylights flood light into the space, whilst a picture window seat provides a peaceful spot to sit and read overlooking the garden.

Featured in Beautiful Kitchens Magazine and a finalist in the AJ's Retrofit Awards (2013), the transformation succeeded in bringing light, space and texture to Joe & Amys home. This beautiful extension and refurbishment by our architects obtained Planning Permission adjacent to the famous Turner House and in Conservation Area. Joe & Amy wanted to update and extend their detached 1930's home to make it more to their taste and to bring in light and texture to each room. The couple enjoy international hotels in their travels and wanted to bring the eclectic style they have experienced whilst travelling.

In overview, the troubles with Strawberry Hill Village are obvious; conflicts between traffic, parking, service space for retailers, drop off/ waiting and pick up arrangements for the station, unsafe footpaths and cycle thefts. Of course many things don't work well around the station but also there is the opportunity to make a lovely heart to the village. If we can agree some new balances in terms of parking and so on, then we can work on enhancing the qualities of the area as a place to meet : a safe pedestrian friendly landscape with seating and shelter; space for Sopa to spill onto the pavement, new soft landscaping to green and to help unify spaces both sides of the track, and a battle plan for sorting out the station with its tired platforms and bridge, and the unused old station buildings and their approach.

The first floor was changed from a standard semi detached layout to have two large bedrooms with en-suites, one with a dressing room - a more practical and comfortable arrangement for the cosmopolitan couple. We have worked twice with Susan and David on their home in St Margaret's. Their brief in 2007 was to extend and refurish this beautifully proportioned home in a Conservation Area. The feel they wanted was semi industrial with concrete floors and stainless steel clad columns, a white minimal kitchen and 1950's Danish furniture in the style of Kofod Larsen.

Architecture:WK's Design in a Day workshop was a great opportunity to share exciting & practical ideas on how to maximise the space & light. AWK gave a high quality presentation of the design, which they have since developed into more detailed drawings & submitted successfully through planning. Looking forward to the next stages! The ambition of a humble worker's Victorian cottage is to serve its inhabitant, to keep them warm, safe and dry, and to remain humble. The issue with our huge stock of Victorian and Edwardian homes is that they no longer serve contemporary needs, including ones that were extended in the '60s with ground floor bathrooms, lightless dining rooms and kitchens, and stairs steep enough to feel uncomfortable.

Loft extensions are easy, right? Amanda Lamb, in What the Neighbours Did said that our Beaconsfield House loft was ".the best loft she'd ever seen". If you're going to have a room in the sky, let it be light-filled and as lovely as it can be. Many people will offer to alter your building. It takes an architect to maximise its potential and to do it with flair, imagination and style. Our Design in a Day workshop was fun, productive and a real pleasure. AWK listened to our brief and came up with a design that would not have occurred to us without her input.

New build houses are now required to meet a plethora of Planning, sustainability, and evermore stringent building regulation criteria. Drawing lines from each of these, and creating a building where they all converge, in a beautifully functional space, is a challenge we enjoy meeting. Building your own home is, for most clients, a once in a life time opportunity and working with the right architect is key. With 15 years' experience in construction; an eye for design and detail and creating enjoyable light spaces; the expertise to listen to client requirements and translate them into a home that you have designed are skills that we can offer.

Jane wanted to build a new-build home for her mother in the grounds of her Grade II listed property in Twickenham. It needed to accommodate her mother's changing needs in case wheelchair access was required later. The project needed both listed building consent and planning consent. We worked closely with Richmond Planning Department's Conservation Officer to arrive at a mutually agreeable proposal. The project was to contrast with the traditional brick house. The skylights over the living and kitchen areas bring in plenty of light, whilst the bespoke doors to the patio, afford views over the private garden.

Small projects can be delightful and complex in the interface between each part of them to the whole. Requiring thoughtful design and attention to detail, from single rooms and front porches to small kitchens and small houses, we have helped tranform creative ideas into realty. Sam took all our concerns and wishes into account and came up with a plan that we're very excited about. We can't wait to get building and start living in our eco-luxe dream house. Our Design in a Day workshop was fun, productive and a real pleasure.

Having worked on the roll out of the Miss Selfridge Stores many years ago, we have also designed on a smaller commercial scale for Tim Little/Grensons' shoe shop in Liverpool Street, the Job Centre in Shepherd's Bush and our own offices and art gallery in Teddington. More recently, we have launched our Social Initiative Projects to both provide ideas for locations that require an architect's attention and to show our ability across a wide range of projects. Our Design in a Day workshop was fun, productive and a real pleasure.

The Powder Rooms wasa former disused public convenience in Richmond upon Thames Borough. A proposal for converting these to offices and an art gallery was put forward to Richmond Planning department. The bid was successful for being the most viable use of the site. Architecture WK occupies the office space on Broad Street. The art gallery is a light filled space exhibiting contemporary art. AWK listens, is client centred, innovative, well organised and an excellent project manager. She pays attention to detail. Most of all she is passionate about her work. A great Architect and example of all that is good in the profession at such a challenging time. Helen and Jim wanted to update and extend the property to enhance the existing kitchen, to create an additional bedroom and to extend the current living/dining room to make better use of the space in their property. Having lived in this detached family home for several years with their now teenage children, Helen and Jim wanted to update and extend the property to accommodate them for the future.

A rewarding project transforming a traditional two up two down cottage it into a contemporary, light filled 3 bedroom home. Our Architects in Twickenham, applied for planning permissions for the loft, ground floor and first floor Extensions and the property underwent complete refurbishment, using Neatsmith kitchens and Wardrobes. The terraced house was in need of full refurbishment, a kitchen extension and a loft extension. Wewere also able to gain planning permission for a first floor bedroom extension.

This beautiful Manor House is a Listed Building in a Conservation Area and had been haphazardly changed internally over the years. Our clients didn't need more space - just a rationalisation of the internal areas rooms and a change to the existing closed staircase that crossed the front windows rather inelegantly. The technical resolution of the staircase to create the right step heights, clear the cloakroom underneath, clear the window cill and meet the finished floor level on the first floor is the stuff architects are made for!

Hampton Road was an exciting project with an excellent result at planning. The property is a detached home and was in desperate need of updating. The extensions and refurbishments required were so extensive that the house was rebuilt except for part of the front elevation and the garage. David & Sue needed appropriately sized bedrooms on the first floor, with plenty of light in this north facing home. They needed a larger kitchen extension with sliding doors and wanted a wow factor staircase. We designed the property in timber frame construction to be manufactured off site and bolted together on site.
