If you are the owner proposing to have the works carried out you must find out whether the works are governed by the Act. If you do not get agreement from the adjoining owners you must employ a party wall surveyor to agree a party wall award. He/she will either act as an Agreed Surveyor or agree the award with an appointed Surveyor acting for the adjoining owner. If you have been served with a Party Wall notice, NJC Services can provide you with a schedule of condition or agree a schedule of condition with another surveyor.

Two retail units were to be combined into a single unit. To make this possible they were going to have to remove a substantial 8m wide and 450mm thick brick wall which was providing the support for the four-storey Victorian building above it. NJC Building Consultants were retained as the party wall surveyor for the project. The works involved major temporary supports with temporary foundations to allow safe removal of the brickwork. Curing times was also a major consideration so it certainly was not to be a rush job!
