Residential air conditioning systems operate on an Air to Air exchange. This is the most common installation for the domestic market, able to provide cooling and heating for total climate control. It has refrigerant running between its outdoor unit and indoor units, therefore little chance of any energy loss before cooling or heating the required space. Air to Air systems are the most efficient heat pump system; this type of heat pump is not required to heat hot water before heating the space required.
