SIG Design & Technology offers a complete and impartial roof design and supply service for both new build and refurbishment projects, including single ply, zinc, copper and stainless steel roofing and cladding, and green roof systems. We help architects and contractors make roofs that last, save energy and carbon, and crown their projects with the roofs they deserve. Our technical team works closely with our clients to understand their needs and provide unique, tailor-made solutions that are guaranteed.
SIG Design & Technology is part of SIG Roofing, a division of SIG plc, one of Europe's leading suppliers of products to the construction industry and an FTSE 250 quoted company. When we recommend a product we know our own supply chain of experts can supply it. SIG Roofing is the UK's largest specialist supplier of roofing materials, offering a comprehensive range of over 40,000 products for use in every sector of the roofing industry. With over fifty years trading experience, SIG Roofing knows exactly what's important when it comes to supplying a building project and has built an enviable reputation for providing a smooth, trouble-free delivery service.
However good a roofing system is, an inexperienced contractor can cause a failure that may not be detected until later. Whilst high quality workmanship will guarantee your roof's performance for the required lifespan, poor workmanship means having to go back to site to supervise remedial works, at your inconvenience and cost to your client. Roofing contractors are highly skilled individuals, with a critical role in the success of your project, both aesthetically and of course in terms of performance.
SIG Design & Technology Accredited Contractor scheme is the essential 'third element' of our roofing design, specification and supply service. Our Design and Technology Accredited Contractor scheme (DATAC) ensures that designers, clients and main contractors deal with financially credible, trained specialist roofing contractors who have an on-going relationship with the products they work with and are supported on site to deliver high quality projects. DATAC contractors are just one of the ways that SIG Design and Technology is able to support end users of our roofing products.
IKO Armourplan Walkway membrane is a 2mm thick anthracite or mid grey coloured PVC walkway membrane available in 1.0m wide x 20m long rolls. It is hot air welded to the roof surface in a layout as specified by the client. The chevron patterned walkway membrane provides a slip resistant surface and provides additional protection to the waterproof membrane in areas where mechanical damage is more likely to occur. IKO Armourplan Walkway membrane can be installed over either mechanically fastened or adhered IKO Armourplan roofing systems.
From concept design to installation and eventual recycling, flat roofs provide a wide range of environmental benefits for building projects. SIG Design & Technology offers an independent choice of systems for flat, green, and hard metal roofs for all types of buildings. We help choose the right roofing system for the project and ensure that it meets all the building's requirements. In spatial terms, flat roofs can be highly efficient, reducing the apparent mass of a building and providing easily accessible space for services, such as HVAC plant, photovoltaic panels and solar thermal tubes.
SIG Design & Technology takes the risk out of roof design, offering a genuinely independent choice of waterproofing for flat, green, zinc and copper roofs. Designs are covered by our PI insurance and we're part of SIG plc, a FTSE250 company. Details of our guarantees are provided here. The DATAC scheme is a gateway for roofing contractors into a relationship with our portfolio of roofing products, training, our support network and our complete roofing system guarantees.
One advantage of working with SIG Design and Technology is that we can help you choose the best products for each application, independently of any brand loyalty. Selecting your roof system is always a combination of design criteria, performance requirements and cost, and it is important to find a balance all three. SIG Design & Technology also design and supply flat roofing solutions including single ply, liquid waterproofing, green roofing and zinc, copper and aluminium roofing and cladding. To meet your project requirements SIG Design & Technology supply a range of clay tiles and natural slate.
The roof of any building is key to its performance, and not just to keep the rain out. Roofing also needs to provide suitable insulation, deal with acoustic issues, even capture carbon and generate electricity, and all within the regulations, on time and on budget, and with a long, predictable lifespan. Designing a perfect roof has never been more challenging, but SIG Design and Technology have put together an 8 step guide to identify the challenges and ensure your design meets your clients requirements.
Safe2Torch is a new risk assessment strategy instigated by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), which aims to reduce the risk of roof fires when using gas torches on roofs. Torch on roofing is a long established and high quality product which is used extensively across the country, but fire risk has always been a concern of specifiers and clients, with a number of fires in recent years being put down to the poor use of naked flames or other 'hot works' on roofing projects. The NFRC states that hot works (naked flames, sparks and hot materials) are used in at least 50% of all flat roofs installed in the UK.
SIG Design & Technology is a growing company with an expert team whose job it is to meet and look after enquirers and customers across the UK, providing plenty of expert roofing advice. We have a dedicated team of Specification Managers who provide knowledge on our core range of products; single ply, hot melt and liquids. We also have specialist teams who can advise you on hard metals, SIGnature bituminous membranes and slate. Sitting alongside our Specification Managers we also have a team of experienced Area Field Technicians who support our DATAC contractors both on the roof top and in the training academy.
SIG Design & Technology's guiding principle is to offer our clients the best possible roofing solution; one that exactly meets their needs. We take a structured approach to roof design and specification. SIG Design & Technology partners with the roofing industry's leading manufacturers and choose the optimum system for a specific project. As part of SIG plc, we work as an integral part of the roofing industry, liaising with manufacturers, contractors and trade bodies so that we can offer our clients impartial advice on every aspect of roofing.
Green roofs provide a wide range of benefits to the built environment and they are generally defined as being either 'extensive', 'biodiverse' or 'intensive', terms that indicate their functional use. However, their use also affects the components used in the construction of both the roof itself and the structure of the building. SIG Design & Technology offer both modular systems from Wallbarn and built-up green roofs and blue roof systems from Eco Green Roofs. The M-Tray from Wallbarn has been developed to make sedum roofs easier to install with less disruption to both the plants and the structure.
SIG Design & Technology's partnership with FDT and other leading material producers enables us to supply and deliver project-specific, fully guaranteed solutions which are at the forefront of flat roofing design.
Plant choice should consider factors such as air pollution levels, location, structural limitations of the building and the level of maintenance required. The choice is also dependent upon what the client wants to achieve. If you have any bespoke requirements, please contact us and we can create a perfect green roof for you. Eco Green Roofs use a wide range of sedum and wildflower plant species in our built-up green roofs. Below are their sedum green roof varieties which come in seed, plug plant and blanket types.
