As with a free-standing gas cooker, space has to be allowed so that there is no fire risk to combustible surfaces. The recommended clearances are 760mm above the hob to the nearest wall cabinet and a 50mm clearance all around the hob. A separate isolating valve should be fitted under the hob for safe isolation.
