Edinburgh Tree Surgeons are experienced professionals who operate in and around Edinburgh and the Lothians. Services include hedge trimming, tree climbing and pruning, tree felling, stump grinding, tree inspections and reports. The bulk of our work is domestic tree pruning, tree trimming and tree removals within the city of Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian and East Lothian, however our wide experience within the sector means we can provide specialist arboricultural and consultancy services. We work all over Edinburgh, in its leafy suburbs and beautiful pockets of greenery.

Pruning tree branches will shape the tree, reduce the height and thin to let more light penetrate. We will remove dead and diseased wood, which avoids damage to buildings and vehicles and improves the view. We can remove all waste from tree pruning and trimming to be recycled, or alternatively leave cut logs if a customer requires. We can also leave chipped waste if that would be useful to you as a mulch or compost additive. Is the removal of lower branches to allow additional light to penetrate and clear space.

When removing a tree or large shrub to ground level, a portion of the trunk or stem remains in the ground, including the root structure, this is called the stump. A stump can remain in the ground without causing harm, however you may wish to replant, lay lawn or other hard landscaping. When these techniques are not an option due to space or size, stumps can be ground down to below surface level by machine. We have a petrol-powered stump grinding machine that can fit through a standard doorway or passage so is perfect for domestic gardens with difficult access.

Edinburgh Tree Surgeons often work alongside garden designers and other landscape contractors. We can cut and remove all overgrown and troublesome trees and shrubs from gardens. We are used to working on jobs with complicated access restrictions, such as removing waste through the house, up steps or over walls. We work quickly and professionally and tidy up afterwards to a high standard. We very rarely use glyphosate, or 'weedkiller' chemicals, often called be the brand name RoundUp. This chemical is harmful to wildlife and also, with long-term use, has been proven harmful to humans, so we do not want our staff exposed.

The removal of unsafe trees is essential to responsible tree management. Hazards in the environment may give clues to necessary changes, or changes to buildings or hard landscaping can mean trees outgrow their locations. Sectional felling involves climbing the tree and removing branches in order, carefully lowering and directing branches to the ground on ropes to avoid obstacles such as buildings or delicate landscaping. Sectional felling is mostly done by rope access techniques but we have also used MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) to access the canopy if the trees are unsafe to climb.

Edinburgh Tree Surgeons regularly offers site clearance services to domestic, commercial and local authority customers, particularly working with the construction and demolition industries. This can be for house building, roadworks or waterways. We are a member of the Construction Industry Scheme and are fully insured to work on construction sites. Once necessary permissions are in place for tree removal, we survey sites and create detailed tree removal plans. This may include a combination of clear felling and sectional felling.

Edinburgh Tree Surgeons are often able to respond promptly and effectively to emergency calls. We can dismantle and remove fallen trees or branches in a timely manner, allowing roads and paths to reopen and buildings to be made safe. We also regularly rescue cats! This tree was blown over in high winds. Miraculously there was no damage to the brand new conservatory. The tree was propped up to prevent further movement due to the extra weight when the tree was ascended. The other obvious danger with uprooted trees is the tendency to right themselves very quickly at critical mass.

Hedges form natural and healthy boundaries between properties, are aesthetically pleasing and excellent for wildlife and biodiversity. Well presented hedges require regular trimming to encourage dense foliage and the desired shape. We offer regular pruning services and one-off reductions in size. We have all the equipment to deal with large hedge cutting operations, including a large selection of ladders. We are skilled in our use of both petrol and manual hedge cutting equipment. We have occasionally tackled topiary maintenance work on behalf of clients, you can rest assured the health of your hedge is in safe hands.

Great job removing a tree and big bushes in our garden. Reliable, efficient, tidy workers. Would recommend.

Had a 50 foot plus Norwegian Spruce blown partially down in a recent storm. The problem tree got hung up leaning into a Birch tree about 30 feet off the ground. The Tree Surgeons provided a free quote then did all of the work and removal. They brought a large amount of equipment and the skills they showed was impressive. Would happily recommend them for projects and would be equally happy to use their services again.

Yes first class, I would recommend them to anyone.

Huge thank you to Edinburgh Tree Surgeons who saved our little cat's life today, when he had got himself stuck up a 100 foot tree in woods near our house. After we called their emergency number, Edinburgh Tree Surgeons were here within 30 minutes (on a Sunday afternoon) and succeeded in performing an extremely challenging rescue, getting a very frightened and distressed Sooty down from the uppermost, outermost, branches of this tree. An SSPCA lady also attended and said she had never seen a cat stuck so high in a tree before. Thank you so much, Edinburgh Tree Surgeons.

What's new?

A tree removal from last month.
