Whittlewoods Ltd is was established in 2001 as a hardwood flooring and restoration company, founded and managed by Giles Whittle-Herbert. His skill and craftsmanship were recognised in the local area and business flourished. Whittlewoods developed a strong reputation as a reliable business which fulfilled the needs of discerning customers in search of quality wooden floors. By the end of 2003, Giles had decided to sell the business and emigrate with his family to Australia, where he now runs a successful business; Whittlewaxes Ltd supplying hard wax oil wood floor finishes.
Many homes have wonderful floors hidden under carpets, waiting to be discovered and revived! Your ideal floor maybe closer than you think. Most of the floor restoration projects we work on are solid wood floors that have been covered for years by carpet or linoleum. These once fashionable floor coverings are now outdated and are removed to allow for the often beautiful wooden floors beneath to be restored, giving a stylish and modern wood floor finish. Try lifting the corner of your carpet and if you find a solid wood floor beneath then perhaps floor restoration is right for you.
Engineered Flooring when fitted looks very similar to a solid wood floor yet its composition is quite different. Engineered flooring is made of several layers of cross plywood, with an upper veneer layer of genuine solid wood. This veneer layer varies between 2mm and 8mm depending on the price and quality that you purchase. Incidentally Laminate flooring is not a genuine solid wood veneer it is a picture of wood bonded to a backing board. The cross ply structure of Engineered Wood Flooring gives strength and stability which has many advantages and counteracts the problems often encountered with solid wood flooring like cupping and tenting at the slightest sign of moisture.
Solid wood flooring comes in a huge variety of woods, widths, thickness and colour to suit almost any requirement from modern to traditional homes. They are easy to maintain and are far more hygienic than fitted carpets. With the proper care and attention, your solid wood floor will last a lifetime and like a good wine, improve with age. Wooden floors these days are extremely fashionable adding tremendous value to any home. Estate agents state that "homes with wooden floors sell twice as easily as those without".
All 'moveable' pieces of furniture need soft clean pads on the bottom of legs or supports. To keep your floor in tiptop condition, we recommend applying floor protector pads to heavy items of furniture. Always remember to pick up furniture rather than slide it across the floor. Floor guards enable you to move your appliances forward for servicing without gouging your floor. Doormats are very useful for trapping dirt and grit from outdoors before it gets the chance to reach your floor. Have mats at all exterior doors and get into a habit of checking the soles of your shoes for gravel and grit caught in the treads.
Whittlewoods Ltd have great pleasure in offering clients the opportunity to come to our showroom to view our range of wooden floors. This gives the potential customer a special advantage to view our floors in a larger atmosphere than a sample plank. We have committed about 50m2 of our offices to the showroom and have laid numerous different colours and grades on the floor to allow the client to see what it actually looks like as if it were fitted in their home. Each segment is 2-6m2 in area and gives the client the ample time to really look at the floors in detail.
